Woodland Retreat, Mawnan
The current garden has a mature and shady woodland at the end, and the clients wanted to create an evening dining and wellness area that was like “going out for dinner without going out”.
Conducting an arboricultural survey helped to select poor performing trees for removal to encourage good growth of remaining species, plus planting of the next generation of trees in this eclectic collection.
A new timber frame dining room overlooks the central woodland glade, partially open at one end to create a link to the outdoor bbq and kitchen. This building is linked by a resin bound gravel path to the bespoke sauna, hot tub and shower in the same solid timber construction.
Evening lighting was especially important as it is likely to be used mostly in the evenings. Strings of pendant lighting compete only with the stars over the hot tub, and uplighters illuminate selected trees to give a magical vibe.
