New neighbourhood, Kent

A welcome opportunity to push the boundaries of typical housing developments and create a landscape that is sustainably led as well as a hub for the community.

The design of this 250 home neighbourhood was informed by the drainage requirements of the site, as well as the retention and enhancement of the existing ecology.

The layout creates corridors linking the wildlife hotspots, as well as providing easily accessible amenity space for residents and the local community.

Health benefits are incorporated from the outset by encouraging walking and cycling to the train station, as well as providing fitness trails and ample opportunity for natural play.

The majority of the site is planted with mixed native species and long sward grassland, this creates a variety of habitats for wildlife and ensures that the site blends harmoniously with the surrounding countryside.

The provision of new trees softens the built landscape and provides year round interest with blossom, berries and autumn colour. Ornamental planting is simple yet bold and textural, designed to thrive in this unique location as well as provide year round pleasure.
