Hillside garden, Mawgan Porth
The client came to me to soften an existing garden design plan which consisted of high white rendered walls and sharp angles. It’s a steeply sloping site, and I was inspired by the South West Coast Path that winds its way around our coastline. The rear deck is linked to the top floor of the new upside-down house by a bridge. Long, low steps connect the deck with the terrace surrounding the house. A narrow path meanders past granite boulders and exotic planting.
The front terrace gives space for sunbathing outside the bedroom windows, and a hunkered down firepit area with built-in seating is the perfect spot for a sundowner.
Softness is provided with a material palette of natural stone, warm limewash paint, and natural timber features such as built-in furniture and hidden storage.
